To Ikea hell and back again

Posted by Dutch Wool Diva

The attic make-over is finally coming to an end. The kitchen cabinets and are installed, the tap and stove are hooked up, the hood is attached to the wall just for ornamental purposes only because the pipe still needs to go through the roof.  The show in Den Bosch is approaching fast and I want to be READY so I had some major dye-sessions already.

After a full day of dyeing, DH and I met one late afternoon in the studio and he suggested there maybe a little gap in the way I organise things.

The scene: attic/dye-studio

Me: Look, hun what I did the last few days? Great colors, eh? I tried some new techniques and I really like the results!

DH: Huhuh, that’s nice baby. Meanwhile he’s checking the contents of a cupboard that has to be moved.

Me: Yup, but look here! These are all ready too (grabbing skeins left and right to show them off). Oh, and what about these??? Those are supersoft, here feel!

DH: Baby? Do you still know what’s what now?

Me: Yeah, sure I do! Look, these are the Merino Superwash skeins and these…, these are…errr…..bamboo-blend? I think….shit…

DH: What’s for dinner?

Me: HOW THE HELL DO I KNOW???!!! Damn, now I have to sort things out first. Move over, YOU’RE IN MY WAY! And where does this come from??! Sjeezz….GET OUT OF MY WAY!!!

30 Minutes later I had it all sorted out again and the pizza was ready to eat. I promised myself to drive to Ikea this week to pick up some see-through boxes so that won’t happen to me again even-though it was all his fault.

So today was Ikea-day.

Me and my little girl went shopping. First we just looked around for a bit, then we had a some sandwiches/coffee/chocolate-milk at the restaurant. After our lunch we walked (stepping on heels and nudging elbows because it was getting busier by the minute) downstairs where the “smart storage” stuff is.

We quickly loaded up the cart and headed for the checkout.

As a business woman I have an Ikea Business-card (being self employed has it’s perks, hehe) but because I haven’t used it yet I decided to ask how to use it at the Ikea Info-booth (this is right before the checkout).

The Scene: Ikea Info-booth

Me: Hello!

Mr. Info-booth: Hi, how can I help you?

Me: See, I have this Ikea Bussiness-card, and I want to know how this works. Do I go through a special checkout or…?

Mr. Info-booth: Well, I don’t know about that. They changed it recently. I think you have to go to the Ikea Business-point on the second floor and order all that stuff.

Me: Okay, but I have everything right here in the cart and the only thing I need is a proper Invoice for taxes you know.

Mr. Info-booth: You have to pay for that stuff! You’ll get a receipt at the checkout.

Me: But I don’t want a receipt, I want a proper invoice! With an invoice number, for taxes you know?! The brochure says I get an invoice if I use the Ikea Business-card but it doesn’t tell me where I should go or where and how I should pay?

Mr. Info-booth (getting rude): You really need to go to the Ikea Business-point on the second floor! You’ll only get this stuff if you pay for it and you’ll only get a receipt and not an invoice! Goodday!

Mr. Info-booth takes off and leaves me standing there. My neck is starting to get sweaty and itches like crazy (why is it so hot here?) when I look down on my daughter who’s pulling my arm. Can we get that ice-cream now mommy? I give her praise for being such a good girl and for being so patient (me, I’m boiling inside..) and ask her to wait for just a little bit longer. Mommy has to go to the second floor and order the stuff that is already in my cart at the Ikea Business-point.

With a fully loaded cart and my little girl at my hand I slowly move “up-stream” (there really is only one way here!) in the direction of the stairs when it hits me. I AM NOT taking this stuff to the second floor! I’ll just ask another employee to help me make a shopping list on the computer so I can take the list upstairs. If I can make one at home on the Ikea website they sure as hell can make one here, right?! I WANT TO BE OUT OF HERE ASAP!

I explain my situation to another Ikea-girl who is very helpful (too bad she doesn’t know about the Ikea Business-card either). Did you know they can’t make a shopping list on the Ikea computer? I mean really? Eventually another girl grabs pen and paper and starts writing up the numbers for me (duh, why didn’t I think of that?) to take to the Ikea Business-point and parks my cart behind the counter.

I’m almost heat struck in my darn winter coat but hurry up the stairs with my little girl.  Because I’m going in the “wrong” direction all the signs are backwards and I must have walked in circles 3 times looking for signs that said “quick route to…”. I bet if I followed the “long route – see all” arrows on the floor backwards it wouldn’t have taken me so long to get to where I wanted to be.

The Scene: Ikea Business Point

Me: Can you please help me???

Ikea Business Point-employee: Sure! How may I help you?

Me: I have this Ikea Business-card and Mr. Ikea Info-booth told me I can only use that HERE. I have to order my stuff HERE. Even thought I have all the stuff loaded into my cart downstairs! I’m sweating like a pig running around in Ikea and I just want an invoice! But apparently I can’t have one….(catching my breath)…

Ikea Business Point-employee: Oh, I see. Well they don’t know what they’re talking about. Do you have the card with you?

Me: Yes, I have it right here.

Ikea Business Point-employee: It’s really very easy! You take the cart through checkout and give them the card. They will give you a receipt. You take the stuff home and a few days later you’ll get an invoice in the mail. When you receive the invoice you will have 10 days to pay through your bank account. That’s all!

The Scene: Ikea Parking lot, 15 min later.

Me: Nice ice-cream, eh sweety?

My little girl: It’s yummie mommy! It was very hot and busy in there…

Me: Sure was! You know what?

My little girl: No, what?

Me: I was so lucky to have you in there to help me, you were such a sweet girl!

My little girl: Kiss?

    Stelletje $%^&#@*&^%!
Overigens complimenten voor je dochter !
