And then fall came!

Posted by Dutch Wool Diva

And you find this at your front door…

Herfst

Darnit. I’m cold and I want a hot coco now.

A little over 3 weeks I was here…

See the orange beach towel? I would bask in the sun there until I was hot enough to cool down here…

It’s not FAIR!

Oh well…that’s not what this post is about anyway. It’s time for:

Dyeing!

Over the last few weeks I was playing happily with wool and dye. It’s amazing how your mood affects you in the way you use colours. From March up untill August it was all happy and bright colours. The more the merrier.

And now I’m totally mesmerized by warm and darker colours in different shades. Real autumny colours.

Yarn september_3

Top to bottom: Cabernet – Brown Sugar – Ivy. All (2 of each colour) are up in the shop.

The first two are 75% BFL/25% Nylon, strong but soft. Ideal for socks, and we NEED socks! The third is a 80% Merino/20% Bamboo mix. Also usable for socks but a little less sturdy. I like to use this mix for lacy shawls. It blocks beautifully but you still keep a bit of bouncyness (some people refer to it as “sproing”).

Ivy sold almost immediately so I made another batch. Obviously more people than me like greens ;-)

Next time, I’ll try to remember to make some “action” pics during the dyeing process.

Structure

Posted by Dutch Wool Diva

Pssst…don’t get startled! It’s me.

I made a deal with you myself remember? I was going to post here once a week. And look! Here I am!

Usually I leave it up to my inspiration (and mood) if I write a post or not. And usually it was about everything but the sink.

  • I wrote about myself
  • I wrote about the children
  • I wrote about the wonderful world of being self employed
  • I wrote about the cats
  • I wrote about clothes/socks I made
  • Again I wrote about everything but the sink

There was no structure at all. Not that you need structure but…you know what? I NEED structure!

For many years I was in an environment where it was considered normal, vital even, to work in a structured way. At the end of a workday I always made a to-do list for the next day and I had a rough list for the whole week.

Once a week my co-workers and I would sit down and discussed our own lists and we would prioritize. What would come first and what could wait or what could another co-worker take over.

I know this sounds very dull, but I actually (secretly) liked it.  Obviously there were times something would totally mess up my own planning (and my co-workers) because another department did not deliver something you desperately needed OR you just had a shitty day and couldn’t concentrate at all. But for the most part I usually got more work done WITH a list than without.

What the purpose is from this post you ask? I (the one who Is posting randomness, always wants to do her own thing in other words the pigheaded person) am going to bring structure to my blog-life! But…(loophole alert)……because I don’t want to overdo it  I’m making a monthly list ;-)

This months list:

  • blogging about my little give-away (WHO is it going to be?)
  • blogging about my latest sock design (really pretty!)
  • blogging about dyeing (lots of pics)
  • writing a tutorial (get out the knitting needles)

Pfew, there! I did it!

What? Not enough? Weeeeelll, okay here’s the last one:

  • blogging about a subject you assign to me (GULP)

Now that one is challenging! I think I’ll keep that one for the end of the month. Gives me more time to make excuses think about it

You can leave a comment or mail a subject to: mail (at) mabeon (dot) nl

Ready?

GO!

Ps. You can still win the socks I’m giving away by leaving a comment (before friday) on the post below! Just do it. I know you want to ;-)

Blog give-away!

Posted by Dutch Wool Diva

If you’ve been away from your blog as long as I have there’s only one way to make it up to your blog-readers.

Promise to do better (a minimal of 1 post per week……….aaaahhhh the pressure!) and do a give-away and hope that everybody doesn’t hate you and still wants to come back and read your stuff

And I have the perfect give-away!

PlainSocks_1 PlainSocks_2

Socks! Of course! What did you think? Have you seen the weather in the Netherlands lately? You NEED these!

The socks are made with hand dyed sock wool (by me obviously…), they are superwash (throw in the washer at 30 degrees or wool cycle) AND….I knit them. There is love in every stitch ;-)

There’s just one big tiny problem…it’s a size 40-41 (US 8½-9). So if you have little feet like me, you still have nothing :-| But I promise there will be more give-aways soon!

Which of my (3 or 4) loyal readers has the right size (or knows somebody who does) and wants to give me a second chance?

If you want these beautiful socks (really, if you tried hand knit socks you won’t go back) leave me a message. Next Friday I’ll be announcing the winner!
